Samsung recently started rolling out the stable One UI 8.5 update to eligible devices. Its carrier partners in the United States have also released the update on their end.
It appears that AT&T Galaxy phone users have run into an issue after updating to One UI 8.5. The latest firmware update has reportedly broken the video calling functionality of the Phone app.
It's possible to make video calls using the native Phone app. The issue seems to be limited to that app only. Users who are experiencing this issue say that video calls through other apps such as Google Meet remain unaffected.
Reports of this issue have come in from Galaxy S23, Galaxy S24, and Galaxy S25 users in addition to those who own certain Galaxy A devices. The issue also appears to be isolated, as some users find the feature working normally within the same house.
Users are shown a “video declined” error when they try to make a video call through the Phone app on their Samsung phone. The issue only comes up when the video call is being made to other Android devices. Apparently this issue also surfaces when a video call is made from another device to a Galaxy phone.
It's unclear whether the issue is on AT&T's or Samsung's end. No such reports have come in as yet from users on other carriers, or those with unlocked devices. Hopefully there's more clarity on the issue in the coming days.
