Last month, Samsung rolled out a software update for the Galaxy XR that significantly slowed down the headset’s performance, with many users suspecting a memory leak issue. Google, which offered the operating system for the product, Android XR, acknowledged the problem and said it was working on rolling out an update quickly to fix it. Fortunately, that update has finally arrived.
Google has announced that a new software update for the Galaxy XR is now available. Carrying firmware version I610UEU2AZD8, the update appears to be rolling out globally. According to Google, it brings “a series of system stability and performance optimizations” based on feedback received about the previous update, with “a focus on improving the overall user experience.”
Many Galaxy XR users commenting on Google’s Reddit post about the update have confirmed that it significantly improves performance, with some saying the headset now feels as fast and responsive as it did before the problematic update. To install the update, go to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
