Google has released the fourth and final beta version of Android 17. This milestone indicates that the next scheduled release will be the stable version of the operating system. So, what exactly does this release bring to the table and why should users care?
With the arrival of Beta 4, we now have a clear look at the new features and design changes coming to Android 17. Furthermore, this signals that Samsung can soon begin the One UI 9 update cycle based on this latest Android version.
The Android 17 Beta 4 update is now live for compatible devices, which include all Pixel series phones and tablets released since the Pixel 6. If you own one of these devices, you can register for the beta program. Users already running a previous Android 17 beta should receive an over-the-air (OTA) notification to download the Beta 4 update immediately.

The most significant under-the-hood improvement is likely the new App Memory Limits feature. It ensures every app receives the appropriate amount of RAM based on the device’s total available memory. Android 17 Beta 4 also introduces Post-Quantum Cryptography, providing a future-proof layer of protection against sophisticated hacking attempts.
Developers also gain easier ways to identify performance bottlenecks, such as excessive memory usage. Beyond these technical shifts, the UI changes compared to Beta 3 are minimal, as Google has shifted its primary focus toward bug fixes and system stability.
Now that Android 17 has reached platform stability, smartphone manufacturers like Samsung can accelerate the One UI 9 development process. Google is expected to showcase the full suite of Android 17 features at its annual developer conference on May 19, with a stable public release likely following in June.
Samsung is expected to debut One UI 9.0 in July 2026 alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Z Fold Wide. Following that launch, the One UI 9 update should begin rolling out to existing Galaxy devices starting in August or September.
