Long-term durability is one of the characteristics that can make or break — no pun intended — home appliances. Samsung isn’t taking that lightly, and the company recently offered a sneak peek at its rigorous testing procedures.

Samsung has devised a series of durability tests designed to stress key components under various environmental conditions, including fluctuating temperatures and humidity levels.

The company highlighted several tests across categories such as refrigerators, washing machines, and kitchen furniture. Here is a summary of Samsung's methodology.

Samsung refrigerator durability tests

Slam door test: Simulates thousands of open-and-close cycles. Engineers monitor hinges and internal mechanisms for wear.

Extreme temperatures test: Refrigerators must operate in ambient conditions ranging from freezing to over 40°C, ensuring consistent internal temperatures year-round.

Chamber test: Evaluates cooling precision by measuring humidity and temperature across different zones to ensure food freshness.

Ice production test: Assesses both the quality and quantity of ice produced by models equipped with ice makers.

Samsung washing machine durability tests

Temperature resistance test: Machines are repeatedly exposed to freezing and extreme heat to validate durability.

Leak test: After filling the drum with water, the unit is tilted and exposed to varying temperatures and humidity levels, with engineers monitoring for leaks over at least 24 hours.

Water protection test: High-pressure nozzles spray the machine for extended periods to ensure water stays away from electrical components.

Samsung kitchen furniture durability tests

Cooktop durability test: Simulates months of daily use through repeated heating and cooling cycles across multiple units.

Dishwasher basket test: Rails are stress-tested by inserting and removing overloaded baskets thousands of times.

According to Samsung, these tests are designed to ensure its appliances remain reliable for millions of households worldwide.
