Your Galaxy phone's photo backup is getting major change with One UI 8.5

One UI 8 is a minor change compared to One UI 7, but that is likely because Samsung is planning to introduce major UI changes and feature additions with the upcoming One UI 8.5 update. Some of those changes could include a redesigned Quick Share and discontinuation of a photo backup feature.

Some One UI 8.5 firmware files were recently leaked, and developers have been searching for hints of new and upcoming features in those files. Android Authority has discovered that Samsung is planning to end support for the OneDrive backup solution. Text strings suggest that you will not be able to back up photos and videos from your Galaxy phones to OneDrive, as the company will soon move to its own cloud storage solution.

Samsung appears to be planning to introduce Samsung Cloud storage for backing up photos and videos from your Galaxy phone's or tablet's Gallery app. Similar to Apple and Google, Samsung could offer paid storage plans for Samsung Cloud with the One UI 8.5 update.

It’s currently unclear when the switch from OneDrive to Samsung Cloud will occur. However, it’s likely that the company will inform all Galaxy users about this change. This transition might give you a few months to make the switch and download any images and videos that have already been synced to OneDrive.
