Galaxy Z Fold 4 is more durable than rigid phones from rival OEMs

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is one of the most durable foldable smartphones on the market, with the Galaxy Z Flip 4 being the only other device that stands a chance to beat it. The new book-like foldable phone uses Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the outside and UTG on the inside, and it's held together by an Armor Aluminum frame. The hinge was redesigned but remains as sturdy as ever. And although the device doesn't have an IP rating against dust, it can still survive a handful of pebbles and nasty particles, as demonstrated by a new JerryRigEverything durability test.

As most of you probably know, JerryRigEverything's durability videos go above and beyond, and they're essentially torture tests for new mobile devices. In the real world, phones will probably never go through what they're experiencing in JerryRigEverything's mad scientist lab, so any device that can survive by the end deserves some recognition.

So, what about the Galaxy Z Fold 4? How does this new foldable Samsung phone stand the test of JRE? Pretty well, actually!

Galaxy Z Fold 4 is more durable than rigid phones from rival brands

It may be difficult to believe that a foldable device can offer a higher build quality than a ‘candy bar' flagship phone, but the Galaxy Z Fold 4 does exactly that. Although scratch resistance is virtually the same as it was last year, the new phone survived JRE's sand test with flying colors. And despite the thinner hinge, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 was virtually impossible to bend, even when pushed from its weakest side opposite to the hinge.

If you don't think these results are impressive, especially for a foldable phone, keep in mind that even some rigid flagship devices such as the OnePlus 10T can't pass the bend test without breaking in half. While Samsung has worked on improving the durability of its devices every year, build quality for other OEMs seems to have taken a backseat, which helps make the Galaxy Z Fold 4 a surprisingly durable phone.
