Android Auto 8.0 update doesn’t bring the much-awaited redesign

Earlier this year, Google announced a major redesign for Android Auto, and it was expected that the new UI would be released with the Android Auto 8.0 update. Google has now begun rolling out the Android Auto 8.0 update, but the redesigned UI is nowhere to be seen.

The upcoming redesign, codenamed Coolwalk, brings responsive UI. It adjusts UI elements according to the in-vehicle infotainment system's screen size and aspect ratio through a three-section split-screen layout. Even while displaying media playback controls and other notifications, the new UI always keeps Google Maps visible.

Google may release the redesigned version of Android Auto in the coming weeks, but the company is yet to announce a specific release timeline officially. A report from 9To5Google claims that Google is still actively working on the upcoming redesign, so we're hopeful that we will be able to use it before the end of this year.

If you are an Android Auto user and were waiting for the redesign to happen, it looks like the Android Auto 8.0 won't satisfy you. It just brings bug fixes, and there don't seem to be any changes to the UI. Hopefully, it fixes the issues that Galaxy S22 users have been facing since the start of the year.
