Samsung unveiled its all-new Galaxy Z Fold 4 at Unpacked today. The latest model looks almost identical to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, betraying Samsung's attention shift towards improving the hardware and user experience through other means. The phone does bring a handful of hardware upgrades worth mentioning, and among them counts a newer chipset.

The good news for Samsung fans is that, much like the previous generation foldable model, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is powered by one SoC variant in every market, with no division between Snapdragon and Exynos. The new foldable flagship phone is powered by a Qualcomm chipset globally, which means customers won't have to worry about getting a lesser experience for the same premium price. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 treats everyone equally.

Galaxy Z Fold 4 adopts the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 went on sale last year with the Snapdragon 888 SoC under the hood. For the 2022 model, Samsung could've upgraded to the Snapdragon 888+ or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and called it a day. However, the company went a few steps further this year to ensure that the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 has no competition.

For its new flagship, Samsung adopted Qualcomm's latest 4nm chipset known as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It comprises one Cortex-X2 CPU core, three Cortex-A710 cores, and four Cortex-A510 cores. The processor works alongside an Adreno 670 graphics chip.

Compared to the Snapdragon 888, the new solution from Qualcomm offers better specifications across the board. It has higher CPU and GPU clock rates, a larger cache, and is more energy-efficient thanks to the 4nm manufacturing process.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is now available for pre-order in most markets and will hit the shelves in a couple of weeks on August 26. Oh, and in case you're wondering, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 rocks the same Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset as its larger foldable sibling.
