Most people retrofit their homes with smart home technology and while the implementation can be good enough, it doesn't quite beat the experience you'd get with a new development that's been constructed from the ground up with IoT devices in mind.

Flow, a US-based real estate firm, is building a new project in Miami which will have 422 units. Samsung has announced that it's going to deploy its SmartThings home technology at this project to provide an elevated smart home experience.

    Samsung goes with the Flow

Flow is the latest venture of Adam Neumann, the co-founder and former CEO of bankrupt shared workplace startup WeWork, with grand aspirations of transforming the rental housing market in the United States.

Samsung will be providing the smart home technology for one of Flow's upcoming projects in Miami. The 422-unit complex will be fitted with Samsung home appliances, including washers, dryers, refrigerators, and projectors, all of which will be integrated with the SmartThings platform.

A variety of sensors and AI solutions will be utilized to adjust elements like the humidity, temperature, and lighting based on the lifestyle patterns of individual residents. For example, when a resident leaves their unit, the system will switch to energy saving mode by turning off the lights and appliances to conserve energy. When they return, the system will power on those devices and also adjust the temperature and humidity.

In other scenarios, such as when they watch a film, the system will adjust the blinds and lights automatically, or when they wake up at night to go to the kitchen or bathroom, the lights will automatically turn on at low intensity.

This collaboration will be a great way for Samsung to show off the capabilities of its smart home platform, and also highlight how residents can get the best possible user experience when they combine that with Samsung's mobile devices.
