On 20 March 2024, Samsung launched the Samsung Wallet app for Galaxy smartphones and tablets in South Korea. It arrived as a replacement for the Samsung Pay app. People who already had Samsung Pay installed on their device had to just update the app to the latest version to change it to Samsung Wallet. Well, it has been only twenty days since then, and the user base of Samsung Wallet seems to have grown tremendously.
Samsung has announced that 70% of people who had Samsung Pay installed on their Galaxy device have updated the app to Samsung Wallet (via IT Chosun). Furthermore, the company says that the percentage of Samsung Pay users aged between 10 and 20 years who updated the app to Samsung Wallet was even higher, 75%, which could be a direct result of the promotions that the brand has been running for those people.
Samsung Wallet in South Korea supports the Mobile Driver's License and Mobile National Veterans Registration Card, which have the “same legal effect as real ID cards,” and can be “used for voter identification purposes in public institutions and financial institutions that require identification, as well as in the 22nd National Assembly election on April 10.”
Commenting on the latest achievement, a Samsung official said “Samsung Wallet's various additional features are rapidly changing users' daily lives. We hope you will experience the era of electronic wallets that have become safer and more convenient with various lifestyle features.”
