Last week, Samsung started rolling out the March 2024 security patch to the Galaxy Z Fold 2. However, up until now, the security update was available only to the international variant of the foldable phone. Now, the Korean tech giant is extending it to the carrier-locked and carrier-unlocked variants of the smartphone, which come with the model numbers SM-F916U and SM-916U1 respectively.
The firmware carrying the latest security update for the carrier-locked variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has build number F916USQS5KXC1, whereas, that for the carrier-unlocked model is F916U1UES5KXC1. The March 2024 security patch fixes 45 security issues. From those fixes, 36 come from Google, and 9 come from Samsung.
The latest firmware for both variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is now available to download from our firmware section. However, we recommend you get the update directly from Samsung over the air (OTA), especially if you have never flashed a firmware by yourself. To do that, go to Settings » Software update » Download and install.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is currently on the monthly security update schedule, which means that Samsung will offer one security update every month to the device. However, considering that the company has moved the Galaxy Z Fold to the quarterly update schedule, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is next in line to get that treatment. In the quarterly update schedule, Samsung offers one security update every three months.
