Unlocked Galaxy S23 units get March 2024 security update in the USA

The One UI 6.1 update is on the horizon for Samsung's 2023 flagships, but it's taking longer than we had hoped to actually get here. However, in the meantime, it's business as usual as far as Samsung's monthly security updates are concerned.

The Galaxy S23 series, which will be among the first devices to get One UI 6.1, received the March 2024 security update in the US a few days back. The initial rollout was for carrier-locked variants of the S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra, and now, the update is available for unlocked units as well.

The March update for unlocked units can be identified by a firmware version/build number that ends with the letters BXBD. It only has security fixes onboard, which is expected to be the case for every update before One UI 6.1 is ready to roll out to the Galaxy S23 lineup.

For now, only the base, Plus, and Ultra Galaxy S23 models have received the update. The Fan Edition models get software updates on their own schedule, and it may be a while before the latest one is available for the Galaxy S23 FE.

To download the March update on your Galaxy S23 series phone, open its Settings app, select Software update, and tap Download and install. That's the over-the-air option but it's not the only way you can update your phone. You can opt to manually upgrade to the latest firmware by downloading it from our archive and installing it using a Windows PC.

For Galaxy S23 owners in other markets, the March 2024 security update may come directly with One UI 6.1 in a few weeks instead of getting a separate release, so don't be disappointed if there's no new update available for download in your country.
