While Samsung brought an iterative upgrade in the form of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 last year, it is expected to introduce some radical changes with the Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, Samsung isn't the only one bringing significant changes to its foldable phones. Google will also bring massive improvements with the Pixel Fold 2 later this year.

Pixel Fold 2 to compete with Galaxy Z Fold 6

The design of the Google Pixel Fold 2 has been revealed by SmartPrix (in collaboration with OnLeaks), thanks to CAD-based renders of the foldable phone. The whole design is a massive departure from the first-generation Pixel Fold. However, it has lost the well-known camera bar found on Pixel smartphones, making way for a more squarer layout.

It has a massive 8.1-inch screen (7.9-inch when factoring in curved screen corners) compared to the 7.6-inch screen on the first-generation Pixel Fold. On the front, it has a 6.6-inch screen (6.4-inch when considering its curved corners). Moreover, the upcoming Pixel Fold looks more like a finished product, thanks to its uniform and thin bezels around the cover and inner screens. In comparison, the Pixel Fold looks more like a prototype-stage device in design and aesthetics.

As per the leaked renders of the Pixel Fold 2, the upcoming foldable phone has flat sides and curved corners. In comparison, the Pixel Fold has a curved side frame. There is a punch-hole-shaped camera cutout for the selfie camera. On the rear, there appears to be a primary camera, an ultrawide camera, and a telephoto camera with a periscope-style zoom lens.

Google Pixel Fold 2 USB Type-C Port

It is rumored that the Pixel Fold 2 will feature the Tensor G4 processor, featuring one Cortex-X4 CPU core, three Cortex-A720 CPU cores, and four Cortex-A520 CPU cores. It has the Mali-G715 GPU and is made using Samsung's 4nm LPP+ process, the same process used to make Samsung's latest flagship Exynos 2400 processor. The device likely features 16GB RAM and 256GB/512GB internal storage.

Google will likely launch the Pixel Fold 2 in the second half of this year with Android 15 pre-installed. Going by Google's track record, the phone will get seven Android OS and security updates. Moreover, the phone will likely be powered by a 4,800mAh or bigger battery. It has a USB Type-C port and will likely have an IPX8 rating for water resistance. It reportedly measures 155.2 x 150.2 x 5.27 mm when opened and 155.2 x 77.1 x 10.54 mm when closed.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 will likely have a more powerful processor

In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is rumored to feature a sleeker body that is 11mm thin when folded. According to some rumors, the phone has wider cover and inner screens than the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which should satisfy users. It uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy processor, a 10MP selfie camera, a 50MP+12MP+10MP triple-camera setup on the rear, and a 4,600mAh battery.

The Pixel Fold 2 could have a bigger battery and a better telephoto camera than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. But the Galaxy Z Fold 6 could have a more powerful processor. So, it will likely be a fiercely fought battle later this year. You can watch our Galaxy Z Fold 5 review in the video below.

The Galaxy experience can be messy for first-time users

Some say it's always better to have more options, but it's never as clear-cut as it sounds. This design philosophy doesn't always work, and more importantly, it isn't a magical shortcut that can patch everything up and always lead to a better user experience.
