The usage of smart home devices has increased in the recent past, and wireless connectivity is the means for easy setup, control, and management in countless homes and workspaces. Recently, we reported that Thread Group announced a new credential-sharing feature meant to solve interoperability issues between different brands' smart home devices. Now, MediaTek and Google have also joined hands to develop a hardware solution for smart home devices.

Notably, MediaTek and Google with Thread support are developing 2×2 hardware under its Filogic line that will feature support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread for advanced smart home setups. MediaTek, in an official post, has also announced that the latest Filogic chipset will feature compatibility with Matter hardware standards, allowing smart home devices to work seamlessly with each other, irrespective of brands.

MediaTek's Filogic, with Matter & Google support, will make smart home devices more intelligent

Typically, smart home devices rely on different means of wireless technologies, such as high-speed Wi-Fi, low-power Thread, and Bluetooth. MediaTek Filogic will change this, and the new chipset will combine all these modes of wireless technologies for reliable and always-on connected solutions for a seamless experience on smart home devices.

Along with Matter, MediaTek is also collaborating with Google to help consumers build a smart home experience thanks to Google Home integration with home appliances. The upcoming Filogic chipset will share the same 2.5 GHz ISM band and will adopt MediaTek's coexistence and offload features to allow for a seamless connectivity experience.
