Samsung has found a new clever way to advertise on the iconic Piccadilly 3D screen in London. Earlier this month, the company presented the first-ever live-streamed gaming event on the iconic 3D screen.

On December 15th, gaming streamers Vatira and Apparently Jack went head-to-head in the vehicular football game Rocket League at the Samsung London KX store. The stakes? The title of Samsung Gaming Hub Champion.

The competition was live-streamed on the Piccadilly 3D screen in London, and through a partnership with Cheil, Samsung's event really pushed the concept of digital-out-of-home advertising to a new level.

Audiences could react live on the Piccadilly screen

Samsung and Cheil used Ocean Outdoor's DeepScreen Alive technology for the first time to integrate reactions from spectators with the live stream.

Audiences at Piccadilly Circus could scan a QR code using their mobile devices, access a microsite, and react to the Rocket League match with emojis that would instantly appear on the big screen.

Samsung said it is “pushing the boundaries to create engaging customer experiences,” all the while showcasing Gaming Hub capabilities and encouraging everyone to embrace gaming.

The Gaming Hub platform allows Samsung smart TV users to play games from the cloud without a PC or a console.

This isn't the first time Samsung has cleverly used the Piccadilly 3D screen to create unique experiences involving passersby.

In March, Samsung hacked a photo booth at Piccadilly Circus with a 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor linked to the 3D screen. Photo booth users got their best photos displayed on the iconic billboard in London.
