Last week, Samsung started rolling out the December 2023 security update to the Galaxy Note 20 lineup. The update first came for the global variants of the devices and then for carrier-locked models in the US. The factory-unlocked variants were left wanting for the new security update, which has arrived now.

Factory-unlocked units of Galaxy Note 20 series get December 2023 security update in the US

The factory-unlocked versions of the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are now getting the December 2023 security update in the US. The new software comes bearing firmware version N98xU1UES6HWK1 and it is available on Comcast, US Cellular, Verizon, and Xfinity Mobile networks in the country. More networks should release the update within the next week or so. The new software fixes around 75 security flaws discovered in Android and One UI on these devices.

Don't expect the new update to bring any new features or performance improvements. If you have a Galaxy Note 20 series phone which is an unlocked unit, you can now check for the new update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping Download and install. You can also choose to flash the new firmware manually after downloading the required files from our database. You would need a PC running Windows OS and having the Odin tool for that process.

The Galaxy Note 20 series was launched with Android 10 onboard. It received three major Android OS updates: Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13. The devices in the lineup won't get the feature-packed Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update. If you want to experience One UI 6.0, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is a great upgrade, and you can watch its review in our video below.
