Samsung teased earlier this year that it is working on an XR (Mixed Reality) “experience” in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm. It is rumored to be an XR headset, similar to the Apple Vision Pro. However, it is far from an actual launch, and some rumors indicate that it could be launched in late 2024 in limited quantities. But that's not the only wearable device the company is working on.

It appears to be working on smart glasses, too.

Samsung Glasses could be the company's first AR smart glasses

The South Korean firm could also be working on smart glasses like Meta Smart Glass and Google Glass. Samsung has registered for the trademark of the term Samsung Glasses. As revealed by UploadVR, the trademark application was filed on August 21, 2023, with the Intellectual Property Office section of the UK government. The trademark was approved on November 10, 2023. During the application, companies need to specify product categories they want to cover, and Samsung mentioned augmented reality headsets, headphones, smartphones; smart glasses, and virtual reality headsets in the documents.

While these are a wide range of device categories, the most suitable ones appear to be AR headsets, smart glasses, and VR headsets. Samsung is said to be working on a mixed-reality headset that features a Qualcomm processor and Google's Android-based operating system. The company was working on its original design, but after looking at Apple's Vision Pro, the company reportedly shelved the original design and started developing a more high-end device that could be priced around $2,000. The Apple Vision Pro is priced at $3,499.

    Sony OLEDoS Display Panel

Qualcomm recently confirmed that it is working on a newer XR chip that is more powerful than the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 that is used in Meta's Quest 3 mixed-reality headset. Samsung's upcoming device could also use a high-refresh-rate MicroOLED screen from eMagin, a company that Samsung Display acquired recently.
