In his first trip after the recent trial over a 2015 merger case, Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Jae-Yong is visiting Europe. This trip is not only meant to build key business partnerships but also to gather support for South Korea's bid to host the World Expo 2030 in Busan. Reportedly, Lee departed for London on Sunday.

In London, Lee will check the performance and market conditions for its Digital eXperience division (DX), which is responsible for the electronics business in Europe. Samsung, being the largest chipmaker in the world, is the top player in Europe's smartphone and TV markets. Following this, on Wednesday, Lee is expected to attend a Korea-UK business forum to strengthen Korea and Samsung's local business network. Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman will participate in the forum as a part of the Korean delegation.

Lee will travel to Paris on Thursday to support Korea's bid to host the World Expo 2030 in Busan, Korea's largest port city. Notably, Korea is competing for the international fair with countries such as Saudi Arabia and Italy. On November 28, the winner will be determined by a vote of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) member countries.

Samsung's Chairman Lee has been traveling across the globe to lead the Korean government and business leader's bid to host the World Expo. Apparently, earlier this year, he also made a visit to the Cook Islands in the South Pacific Ocean to seek the government's support during the PIF (Pacific Islands Forum) meeting.
