Hyundai and Kia are rolling out a new software update to the 12.3-inch infotainment system featuring the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) platform and inbuilt navigation that these companies offer with the higher-end variants of some of their vehicles. The latest software update brings wireless connectivity to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, allowing people to project Android Auto and Apple CarPlay from their Android and iOS smartphones to this infotainment system wirelessly.

The new software update was first rolled out in Korea and Japan, and now, it is being rolled out in Europe, Russia, and Turkiye. The new firmware carries different versions for different cars and regions, which you can check out on Hyundai’s and Kia’s update portals. The update should roll out in the remaining regions, including Canada and the USA, soon. Some of the cars getting the new update include Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV9. The latest update also brings a few other changes which you check on the official website.

10.25-inch infotainment system still doesn’t get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

Hyundai and Kia are also rolling out new software updates to the 8-inch Compact Gen5 Navigation, 8-inch Standard-class Gen5 Navigation, Premium-class Gen5 Navigation, 8-inch Standard-class Gen5W Navigation, and 10.25-inch Standard-class Gen5W Navigation. While the latest updates for these infotainment systems include almost all the features that the new firmware for the infotainment system based on the ccNC platform brings, they don’t include wireless connectivity to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The two companies offer infotainment systems without inbuilt navigation in lower-end variants of their cars and infotainment systems with inbuilt navigation in higher-end variants of those vehicles. Naturally, one would expect the more advanced infotainment system to offer more features. However, the infotainment systems without inbuilt navigation feature wired and wireless connectivity to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay but the infotainment systems with inbuilt navigation get only wired connectivity (except for the infotainment system based on the ccNC platform which is now getting the wireless connectivity with the new software update).

Author’s Note: The infotainment systems with inbuilt navigation feature the hardware required for offering wireless connectivity to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In spite of that, Hyundai and Kia don’t offer the feature. According to a few reports, it has something to do with which maps platform the physical button for navigation opens on the infotainment system. Whatever the case, people are extremely disappointed about the issue. They paid more for higher trims which miss out on features offered in lower trims.
