[Video] Galaxy Z Flip 5 passes brutal teardown test with flying colors

Samsung has been making foldable phones for five years, and the company has mastered the art. It is still the only smartphone brand that sells water-resistant foldable phones worldwide. Samsung has also started making some changes to the designs of its foldable phones that make them more environmentally friendly, as evident by the Galaxy Z Flip 5 teardown video.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 teardown video

Popular YouTuber Zack Nelson (JerryRigEverything) published a teardown video of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. In his video, he started by rubbing the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in dust and dirt to check how the phone behaves. Then, he carefully disassembled the phone by explaining each part. The foldable Super AMOLED panel worked perfectly even after being separated from the phone's body using a sharp knife. Before removing the screen, which is supported using metal plates, plastic bumpers around the screen and the pre-applied screen protector were removed. The layer under the screen protector is still made of plastic and can get scratched even with fingernails.

The back glass panels of the phone are joined to the phone's frame using adhesive material. The glass panels can be removed after heating them with a heat gun and using a suction cup. Even after removing the 3.4-inch Super AMOLED cover display panel from its place, it was fully functional. After removing a few screws near the center hinge, the wireless charging and reverse wireless charging coil can be removed. Then, after removing some ribbon cables and screws, the 2,700mAh battery can be easily removed using the pull tab. The nifty little pull tab makes batteries reusable, making the phone more environmentally friendly as the battery can be recycled safely.

The video also shows the loudspeaker chamber with foam balls inside to make the audio sound more full. The bottom board houses the loudspeaker chamber, the USB Type-C port, and the microphone. The USB Type-C port has a rubber ring around its edge, making the phone water-resistant. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a circular vibrator motor and additional rubber seals for the IPX8 rating.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a 12MP primary camera with OIS, confirmed by the video. The 10MP selfie camera and the 12MP ultrawide camera lack OIS. After removing the SIM card tray, the fingerprint reader cable, and the extension ribbon cables, the secondary (1,000mAh) battery can be removed. It also features a battery pull tab, which makes repairs easier. There doesn't appear to be any thermal paste or vapor chamber mechanism to cool the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy chip, though. There's just a graphite pad for heat dissipation.

Toward the end, you can see the new Flex Hinge. It has gears, which were missing in the hinge used in the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Samsung says the Galaxy Z Flip 5 can work up to 200,000 folds and unfolds, but a recent video showed that it can go up to 400,000 folds and unfolds. Finally, Zack assembled the phone back as it was, but a few things were damaged. However, the phone was impressively working quite well.

Samsung impressed JerryRigEverything with the Galaxy Z Flip 5's build quality, battery pull tabs, and how well the phone was assembled. In fact, the YouTuber says he's switching from his four-year-old Galaxy Note 10 to the Galaxy Z Flip 5. You can watch our in-depth review of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the video below.
