Apple and Samsung have more or less taken over the global smartphone market in the first half of 2023. Market researcher Omdia revealed that the top 10 most shipped smartphones globally in H1 2023 were made by Apple and Samsung. No other phone brand made the list.

In essence, Apple and Samsung have split the top 10 list of most shipped smartphones in half. The four most shipped phones in H1 2023 were the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the iPhone 14 Pro, the iPhone 14, and the iPhone 13.

Then, Samsung took the fifth-to-ninth spots before the iPhone 11 closed the list in 10th place.

    Samsung's best-selling phones were mostly low-cost

According to the data shared by market research firm Omdia (via @sondesix), the 5th most shipped phone in the world in the first half of 2023 was the Galaxy A14, of which Samsung shipped 12.4 million units.

This low-cost phone was followed by the Galaxy S23 Ultra with 9.6 million global shipments, the Galaxy A14 5G (9 million), the Galaxy A54 5G (8.8 million), and the Galaxy A34 5G (7.1 million).

This makes the Galaxy S23 Ultra the most successful Android flagship of the year so far. And interestingly enough, the base and Plus Galaxy S23 models were not in the top 10. Only the Ultra variant ranked high enough.

Likewise, it means that the Galaxy A14, A34, and A54 were the most successful low-cost Android phones in H1, with no competition in sight. There's no sign of other brands on the list, so aside from its eternal battle with Apple, Samsung is doing pretty well in the global Android market and has a tight grip on the low-cost segment, where Apple doesn't operate.
