Samsung News, the platform that used to be known as Samsung Daily before it became Samsung Free, is now available in Canada. If it sounds confusing, it only is if you look into the platform's history. But the takeaway is that Galaxy device users in Canada now have a fresh news aggregation service ready to be accessed from the home screen. It's called Samsung News and replaces Samsung Free.

For now, Samsung News is available in Canada through a beta version. The first thing existing Samsung Free users will notice is that the app icon changed. But there's more. The company redesigned and rebranded its news aggregation service to offer three easy ways to find content:

    • Daily Briefings: These are briefings picked by Samsung's news editors and delivered to the platform twice a day, in the morning and evening.
    • News Feeds: Through this section, complete with a “Following” tab, Samsung News users can view news feeds from Samsung's partners.
    • Podcasts: This section allows users to listen to news and entertainment podcasts directly from the Samsung News app.

    Not in Canada? No problem!

Samsung News is available only in a handful of countries, including the USA, the latter of which was the first and used to be the only market with access to News. Now it's also available in Canada, and the app may soon come to additional regions, such as Europe — at least according to a trademark application we came across in June.

However, if you live elsewhere and you don't have access to Samsung News, there is a way to install the app on your Galaxy device and enjoy the aggregated news and entertainment content. We wrote a guide on how to get Samsung News running on your Galaxy device anywhere, and you should check it out if you're interested in trying out the platform.

The only downside to using the app in other regions is that, regardless of where you are, you will get news from markets where Samsung News is officially available, such as the USA and Canada. You won't get personalized content for your location. Nevertheless, it's a great app for anyone interested in following news and entertainment content curated by Samsung and partners for users in the USA Canada. Hopefully the app will reach more markets soon.
