Samsung Networks is among the top global communication equipment providers, and it has been growing briskly. Today, the company announced that it achieved a breakthrough in 5G upload speed performance in collaboration with MediaTek. The two companies completed the testing in Samsung's lab in Suwon, South Korea.

The South Korean firm said it achieved record speeds on a 5G Standalone network with 2CC CA (Carrier Aggregation)  with C Band featuring MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output). The test used Samsung Networks' C-Band Massive MIMO radios, a vDU (virtualized Distributed Unit), and a 5G core. A test device from MediaTek, featuring the new M80-based CPU chipset, used one channel each with three antennas (1,900MHz, 3.7GHz, and 3.7GHz) to achieve a top upload speed of 363Mbps. This speed is near the theoretical limit of such a setup.

Once this technology reaches consumer products, it will significantly improve network upload speeds which are becoming more critical. For example, live video streaming at high resolution, video conferencing on the move, and multiplayer gaming can get smoother with networks with such high upload speeds.

Dongwoo Lee, Head of the Technology Solution Group at Samsung Networks, said, “We are excited to have successfully achieved this industry breakthrough with MediaTek, bringing greater efficiency and performance to consumer devices. Faster uplink speeds bring new possibilities and have the potential to transform user experiences. This milestone further demonstrates our commitment to improving our customers' networks using the most advanced technology available.
