Samsung reportedly didn’t consider important user feedback for Galaxy Z Fold 5

Samsung sold over 85% of all foldable smartphones worldwide last year, and that is due to the balanced approach it takes with its Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold smartphones. The fact that it sells them worldwide also makes a huge difference. The company will launch the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 later this year, but one of the main changes demanded by users isn't coming to the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

According to reliable tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), Samsung is sticking with a 6.2-inch cover display on the Galaxy Z Fold 5. It is the same size as the one on the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Many Galaxy Z Fold users, including us, have been requesting Samsung to increase the width of the cover display so that it becomes easier to type and use certain apps, but it looks like the chances of that happening are low, at least with the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Most foldable phones from Chinese OEMs have a wider aspect ratio for the cover display, making it work similarly to a standard candy bar-shaped smartphone. That aspect ratio makes it easier to type and play games, and it doesn't cause UI-related issues in certain apps. However, it looks like Samsung isn't using a similar strategy. Instead, the company is reportedly making efforts to reduce the screen crease and make the phone fold flat while retaining the IPX8 rating for water resistance.

It is reported that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will feature a 6.2-inch cover display, a foldable screen with a less visible crease, an IPX8 rating, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy processor, and slightly improved cameras. Whether or not Samsung increases the battery capacity and charging speed with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 remains to be seen.
