Samsung to launch 77-inch OLED TV, 49-inch OLED monitor in Q1 2023

The latest reports by TheElec confirm that the South Korean conglomerate, Samsung, is planning to launch a 77-inch OLED TV and a 49-inch OLED gaming monitor in Q1 2023. If this information is true, then Samsung will have 3 models of OLED TVs and 2 models of OLED monitors in its portfolio this year.

Notably, Samsung already announced 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch QD-OLED TVs, as well as 34-inch and 49-inch QD-OLED gaming monitors during CES 2023. Industry sources revealed that the branding of these products will be under ‘Samsung OLED.' The branding makes sense, as the company currently uses QD-OLED panels supplied by Samsung Display. However, the branding also opens the doors to procuring WRGB OLED panels from LG Display.

Moreover, the QD-OLED branding could create some confusion in the minds of the average consumer, as there are many who do not understand the difference between QLED, Neo QLED, and OLED. If you're confused about them, too, read our explainer about QLED, QD-OLED, and Micro LED TVs and the article explaining the differences between OLED TVs and QD-OLED TVs.

Do note that the new 77-inch OLED TVs and 49-inch OLED monitors will continue to use the QD-OLED panels provided by Samsung's subsidiary, Samsung Display. In fact, Samsung Display refused to manufacture 48-inch OLED panels for TVs and offered to make 49-inch panels.

This is because the single Gen 8.5 substrate could allow Samsung Display to manufacture two 77-inch panels and two 48-inch panels. Or, the company can make two 77-inch panels and two 49-inch panels from a single substrate. So, cutting the 48-inch panel does not seem as economical as producing a 49-inch panel.
