The Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition is by far Samsung's most customizable smartphone to date, much more so than the Galaxy S20 FE or any other smartphone before it. Where available, customers can order the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition in one of 49 color combinations, so it virtually offers something for everyone. And that is precisely what Samsung was aiming for, according to a recent interview that details the phone's design story.

Samsung observed market trends and realized that consumers want to express themselves through mobile devices, luxury goods, and clothing more than ever before. The company created the Galaxy Z Flip Bespoke Edition with a desire to give customers a way to express their individuality through their phones, and it went to great lengths to choose the best color combinations.

Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition is the result of over 1,280 color simulations

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition went through two phases throughout its development and is now going through the third and final stage. Throughout the first phase, Samsung worked together with global color experts and trend specialists to gather insight on global Color Material Finish (CMF) trends. This led to the development of the so-called “Celebrating Escape” concept, which is the philosophy on which the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition is based, i.e., “breaking from industry norms.”

In the second phase, Samsung conducted more internal surveys to narrow down the color pool. It did more than 1,280 simulations to sort out the best colors, and the design team eventually decided on two frame color options (glossy silver and matte black) and six colors for the back panels. These color choices can be mixed and matched, resulting in 49 combinations.

The third and final stage is ongoing. It involves Samsung gathering customer feedback and analyzing Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition sales results. The company plans to use this data to improve future products.

The popularity of Bespoke Edition colors differ by market

As far as the aforementioned third stage is concerned, Samsung's already gathered some data on popular color choices, and it looks like trends differ from one market to the next.

According to Samsung, the most popular color choice globally is white with a silver frame. Another popular choice is pink combined with a black frame, while US customers seem to prefer a combination of yellow and blue back panels on a silver frame.

These differences in market trends have reinforced Samsung's view on Bespoke Edition devices and the importance of customization options, so here's hoping that the Bespoke service will become available in more regions in the future.
