Don’t sleep on these rumored Galaxy S23 connectivity upgrades

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S23 series will get a handful of upgrades across the board, and one of the areas that will improve this year is connectivity. According to a new rumor, the Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy 23 Ultra will get Wi-Fi 7 support, while the base model will finally adopt UWB (Ultra-Wide Band).

Although Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be) is not yet available, the industry expects it will be next year. And if this rumor at hand is true (via @RGcloudS), then the Galaxy S23 Plus and the Galaxy S23 Ultra will be Wi-Fi 7-ready and future-proof. In theory, Wi-Fi 7 can reach a theoretical maximum speed of 30Gbps.

The same source says that the base Galaxy S23 model will top out at Wi-Fi 6 instead of supporting the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard. However, it, too, will supposedly get a noticeable connectivity upgrade in the form of UWB.

UWB may be coming to the base Galaxy S23 model

Samsung's base Galaxy S and Galaxy Note flagships have not yet adopted UWB connectivity, but this could change in 2023. The Galaxy S23 might be the first base model in the flagship series to feature UWB support.

Including this technology would allow the base Galaxy S23 model to use more advanced features, such SmartThings Find, with much greater accuracy. It would also allow Galaxy S23 users to turn their phones into UWB-based digital car keys.

There is one caveat to this rumor, which is worth mentioning. Older FCC documents don't seem to have specified Wi-Fi 7 for the Plus model or UWB for the base Galaxy S23. So we can't be entirely certain that these connectivity upgrades will come to the Galaxy S23 lineup. However, if the rumor is accurate, it's certainly something to look forward to.

Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S23 on February 1. Fans can already register their interest in the flagship and benefit from $50 in Samsung Credit — or $100 if they reserve a Galaxy S23 model alongside a new Galaxy Book 3 laptop.
