Wild Galaxy Z Fold 5 rumor hints at S Pen holster, odd Snapdragon SoC

A wild rumor claims to have uncovered some key characteristics of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5. It includes speculations about weight and dimensions due to the inclusion of an S Pen holster and claims that the Z Fold 5 may use an unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. Strap yourselves in, folks; this is going to be quite a ride.

According to The Pulse, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will weigh 275 grams (up from 263) and have a 6.5mm profile, up from 6.3mm. This change in weight and size is attributed to the inclusion of an S Pen holster.

No Galaxy Z Fold model released to date has fully adopted the S Pen in this manner, but the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will supposedly be the first to change this.

Unreleased Snapdragon SoC for the “test version”

The idea that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 may have a dedicated S Pen holster isn't too far-fetched. After all, it seems to be the natural order of things, and many people wish that the Galaxy Z Fold would make this leap and fully adopt the S Pen in a Note-like or Galaxy S22 Ultra-like manner.

However, the rumor suddenly becomes less credible when addressing other alleged hardware aspects. The source claims — and emphasizes — that a “test version” of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 uses an unannounced “Snapdragon 985 5G” chipset. Supposedly, this non-existing chip is only used for the test version of the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and needless to say, the idea that Samsung is testing a phone with a chipset that won't be used makes little sense.

This SoC doesn't exist, and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is much more likely to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, or at the most, a Plus version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

If the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a dedicated S Pen holster, the phone will probably be thicker and heavier than previous models. But as far as the SoC goes, take this new rumor with a pinch of salt, and hopefully, the possibility of a dedicated S Pen holster for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 won't be as low as the use of a non-existent chipset.
