Samsung is the pioneer in the OLED panel space and is often the first to develop new display technologies for mobile devices. The company has already lapped up almost the entire foldable smartphone market, and now, it has set its sight on the slidable smartphone and tablet market. The company is reportedly ready to showcase the world's first foldable + slidable OLED panel.

According to ETNews, Samsung Display will showcase the world's first foldable + slidable OLED panel at the CES 2023 expo later this week. However, the company will showcase the technology to its partners behind closed doors. The South Korean firm is reportedly calling it a hybrid panel. Once this screen is folded open, an additional part of the screen comes out when it is slid open. When it is fully folded, the panel measures 8 inches diagonally. When it is unfolded, it is 10 inches big. And when this hybrid OLED panel is fully unfolded and slid open, it measures 12.4 inches.

The company is reportedly testing this panel for devices that can turn from smartphones to tablets and laptops as per a user's need, and such devices would be really expensive. It is still unclear when Samsung Display will start the mass production of such screens as even device makers need to implement such advanced technologies in their products to use this foldable + slidable screen. Devices need extremely advanced hinges and metal plates to hold together this display.

Samsung is trying to expand the market for OLED panels by developing advanced form factors. OLED screens are already being used in many smartwatches, fitness bands, smartphones, and tablets. OLED technology is slowly expanding into laptops and PC monitors. Hybrid OLED panels can also be used inside vehicles as they can expand the screen real estate when they're unfolded and slid open.
