Samsung could be sole supplier of OLED panels for Apple iPads

Apple is reportedly developing two new iPad Pro tablets—an 11.1-inch version and a 13-inch version—that could debut in 2024, reports MacRumors, citing Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC). Going by Apple’s track record, it is safe to assume that Samsung Display will be the sole supplier of OLED panels for both the upcoming iPad Pro models.

Apple has been sourcing OLED panels from Samsung Display ever since the company started using OLEDs in its products, which was with the launch of the first-generation Apple Watch. Apple partnered with other manufacturers to get OLED displays, but things didn’t work out so well. So, the Cupertino-based tech giant has always relied on Samsung for OLED panels, especially for its flagship products. In fact, Samsung supplies 70% of OLED panels for all the iPhone 14 models.

Since Samsung Display has been Apple’s trustworthy supplier of OLED panels for so many years, we don’t see any reason why it won’t be the sole supplier of OLED panels for the upcoming iPad Pro models too. That means Samsung Display will soon have to ramp up the production of OLED panels to meet Apple's upcoming requirements for OLED panels. After all, Apple iPads are sold in huge numbers across the globe. The South Korean firm recently started the development of two-stack tandem OLED panels for future iPads.

Even though Samsung is the largest supplier of OLED panels in the world, it has been ramping up its business even further. Recently, the company started manufacturing OLED panels for TVs and monitors too. The company's QD-OLED, used in the Samsung S95B TV, has been praised for its performance by many TV experts across the globe. The company also showcased an OLED monitor at the IFA 2022.
