Xiaomi has announced that its upcoming smartphone, the Mi 11 Ultra, would use the ISOCELL GN2 camera sensor. Going by its leaked specifications, the Mi 11 Ultra has a 50MP ISOCELL GN2 wide-angle camera, a 48MP ultrawide camera, and a 48MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom (with periscope lens). At the front, the phone has a 20MP selfie camera.
The ISOCELL GN2 is this year's biggest camera sensor (1/1.12-inch). It features 50MP resolution, 1.4µm pixels, 4-in-1 pixel binning (for 2.8µm effective pixels), Dual Pixel Pro autofocus, Smart ISO, Smart ISO Pro, and staggered HDR. It can also record 4K 120fps videos and Full HD videos at 480fps. The sensor can also capture 100MP still images.
It is a really high-quality sensor, perfect for both high-resolution stills and videos. Thanks to dual-pixel autofocus, it doesn't need to rely on laser autofocus like ISOCELL HM1 and ISOCELL HM3, and its staggered HDR feature helps in capturing good images even in extreme lighting conditions. And that is why we think Samsung should use it in its next flagship phone.
