Samsung and IBM have joined forces to develop a new 5G-centric project designed to help businesses across all industries modernize their operations with the help of edge computing, 5G and hybrid cloud solutions. In essence, this collaboration is meant to help enterprises in The Fourth Industrial Revolution, aka Industry 4.0.

Clients will be able to take advantage of Samsung's Galaxy 5G devices and the company's advanced end-to-end enterprise network product portfolio – from outdoor to indoor cell sites and mmWave solutions – together with IBM's open hybrid cloud technologies, its edge platform, AI solutions, as well as its integration and consulting services.

Samsung and IBM will offer their enterprise-grade products and expertise to help businesses deliver on their Industry 4.0 promises. Industry 4.0 is another label given to the ongoing (fourth) industrial revolution that embraces automation of traditional systems. The two tech giants will enable enterprises to adopt technologies that are crucial to Industry 4.0, such as 5G, AI, cloud, IoT, AR (augmented reality) and more.

Red Hat will also be involved with this new collaboration. The US-based software company will work together with Samsung and IBM to explore the interoperability of Samsung hardware and software with IBM Edge Application Manager, the latter of which runs on Red Hat OpenShift.

The bond between Samsung and IBM has been getting stronger lately. Earlier this year, Samsung revealed it will manufacture IBM's latest chipset solution for data centers called POWER10. It's being built using a 7nm manufacturing process and it promises up to 20x faster AI computation compared to the IBM POWER9 platform.
