Samsung Electronics has announced that its microbiology laboratory unit Eco-Life Lab has received certifications from TUV Rheinland AG for finding new ways to test microbial activities in electronic devices such as smartphones. The lab has received ISO 846 and ISO 22196 certifications from the German product testing institute.

The ISO 846 certification has been granted to Samsung's Eco-Life Lab for finding a way to evaluate microbial activities on plastic surfaces, while the ISO 22196 certification is for developing a measurement of antibacterial activity on plastics and non-porous surfaces. The company had hired various experts earlier this year to find the cause of fungus growth, harmful microbial activities, and bad odor that could be found in electronic devices such as smartphones, computers, and more.

The Eco-Life Lab was established in 2004 to analyze harmful substances, and in January, the company started identifying microorganisms. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, consumers have become more aware of cleanliness and are trying to stay safe from harmful bacteria and viruses. Samsung says that the two new certifications will beef up its reputation and the ability to quickly verify microbial activity in its products.

Jeon Kyung-bin, head of Samsung Electronics‘ Global CS Center, said, “Samsung has earned the public confidence through the lab‘s recent works, through which the company can analyze factors that might cause health and hygiene issues. The company will increase its efforts to find measures to improve issues that can arise when using its products.

The Galaxy experience can be messy for first-time users

Some say it's always better to have more options, but it's never as clear-cut as it sounds. This design philosophy doesn't always work, and more importantly, it isn't a magical shortcut that can patch everything up and always lead to a better user experience. On the contrary, if not handled properly, I believe the “more […]

Buying a low or mid-range Galaxy phone is getting confusing again

A few years ago, Samsung went on a crusade to abolish the confusopoly it inadvertently created by offering too many choices in the low and mid-range Galaxy phone market segments.
