[Poll] Does the rotating camera make you want to buy the Galaxy A80?

The much-awaited Galaxy A80 has finally been unveiled today. It’s the first smartphone from Samsung to feature a sliding, rotating camera. That’s what allows the primary rear triple camera system to double as the front camera as well.

It’s a bonafide mid-range smartphone otherwise. The kind you’d expect from the upper echelon of the Galaxy A series. So the camera would most likely be the main reason that customers purchase this device. That’s why we’ve got to ask, will you buy the Galaxy A80 for the camera? Is your disdain for notches or the hole punch deep enough to make you want to buy this device for 649 euro?

Vote below and share your thoughts about the Galaxy A80 with us in the comments section. Don’t forget to check out our Galaxy A80 hands-on to learn more about the device.

I couldn’t care less about selfie cameras, and would *kill* to get a Galaxy Note without a notch or hole punch.

Might have to skip the Note 10, and wait ’til they incorporate this sliding camera mechanism into a future Note

This camera module is too big.

And it makes that I don’t want to buy this phone.

Something that bugs the living s–t out of me:

A large number of users and tech writers alike (although the barrier to entry for “tech writer” on the Internet is pretty low) complain that smartphones nowadays are “boring” and that “we’ve reached peak smartphone” yet when a company tries something different they immediately trot out the tired “gimmick” BS. Can’t have it both ways.

The word “bloatware” is another annoyance, but that’s a separate rant.

As I’ve posted earlier:
A preposterous idea: release flagship model w/o front camera/s, keep the headphone jack and bring back removable battery. I’ll be happy with the IP rating of S5. That’s it. You can sell it as a grandiose return to user friendly phones 😉 Otherwise you’re just fallowing Huawei, Apple etc., and it seems to me that soon you’ll be playing the catching up game… In some departments you and Apple already are.

Unless you’re extremely careful that’s going to break. I can see the mechanism wearing out pretty quickly and a case might not be a viable option, unless they leave the top completely unprotected.

I had the Nokia 6270 and the 6110 Navigator. Both failed for other reasons than the slider. Guess the A80 will be outdated before the slider doesn’t work. But I’m curious how the cases are going to look like. With the added dust intrusion it’s almost a must to not scratch it all up.

I actually used to love the open top cases that Nokia used to pack with their phones, but those were pouch cases so they aren’t the solution. Cases are simply going to be impossible for the A80, not without leaving the top always exposed.

How many times a day do you use the selfie camera? I’ve used it about twice, in four years. I’d happily have no selfie-camera at all – I’d see that as a net benefit (security and cost).

Why don’t you just get a flip phone from 2003. Those didn’t have selfie cameras and were certainly cheaper and more secure.
Leave the smartphones with selfie cameras and as many innovative features as possible to those of us who appreciate technological advances.

I had a pretty good experince with their slider i.e. D600, which is still smooth as butter. They do make good sliders.
