Latest Galaxy S8 update makes it easier to use apps in fullscreen mode

Home / News / Latest Galaxy S8 update makes it easier to use apps in fullscreen mode

Samsung rolled out a firmware update for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ yesterday which featured the June security patch. It has now been discovered that the update also brings a couple of minor tweaks.

We’ve already mentioned how this update limits color options for the Galaxy S8’s navigation bar background. Users can no longer use a fully black navigation bar background which isn’t that great when you think about it. Samsung has provided no reason for switching up the background colors.

Another minor change included in this update pertains to running apps in fullscreen mode. We’ve previously revealed a tip to you about how you can use all apps in fullscreen mode on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+’s tall displays.

Samsung has allowed users to enable fullscreen mode for each app individually since day one. There’s a shortcut in the recents menu for precisely this purpose, but Samsung is now making it easier to do this with the latest firmware update.

The update adds a new button which will be displayed above the navigation bar in apps that don’t support the native resolution. “Tap here to fill entire screen,” reads the button which is self-explanatory. Just tap on it and the app will automatically enter fullscreen mode.

It’s easier and faster to enter the fullscreen mode for apps that don’t properly fit the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+’s display. It will come in handy until such time as developers update their apps with proper support for the larger display.

Not on the UK BTU S8 version it doesn’t. Still on April security patch on the £700 so called flagship! My 2 year old S6 is more upto date than the S8. Samsungs update policy is an absolute joke!

Samsung is hiking prices, but their support is still as crappy as always. But we all know that so you know what you’re getting into when buying Samsung. Vote with your wallet next time and maybe they’ll learn.

I’ve received it 2 days ago for UK unlocked s8 ota. Tbh I m not sure the changes adds value or an annoyance. The option to unpin/hide the navigation just doesn’t feel natural now and is very sensitive and causes issues in some apps

If your smartphone shows completely different color than usual, for example as it shows red, purple, pink, green strip. Is it advisable to deliver Samsung smartphone to service. This error is not resolved by updating, there are hardware errors. If you have a smartphone warranty, it is advisable to provide Samsung smartphone as a service or where you have purchased your smartphone. I had the same mistake in the S7 edge the shown purple, pink, green strip, the Samsung replace S7 edge gave me new. But now I have S8 +, after I Samsung failed to solve the error, it’s… Read more »
