Bixby won’t have support for British English at launch

Prior to the launch of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ it was rumored that the Bixby AI assistant that’s debuting with the flagship is going to have support for up to eight different languages. However, that’s not going to be the case. Bixby is only going to have support for Korean and the American English at launch.

Samsung has confirmed that Bixby will only support the Korean and American English languages initially. However, support will be added for British English and other European languages like in the following months.

It’s obviously going to take some time before Bixby is further improved. Not only does it stand to gain support for more languages but it will also get support for additional apps. Samsung will eventually open up Bixby to third-party developers as well so that they can make it work with their apps as well.

If you’re interested in finding out more about the artificial intelligence-powered virtual assistant on the Galaxy S8, read our piece on what you can do with Bixby.

What is British English ? I’ve never heard of it. British refers to the citizens of the United Kingdom and they could be from Scotland for example. There is only one English language and it is from England, not Scotland, not Wales, or any other part of Britain, just England. ‘So Bixby only speaks American’ should be the headline here as generally what comes out of an Americans mouth is not English.

Who cares about brexit English when it supports Trumps English? It will be the a very, very bigly beautiful version of English. Trust me. You love it.
Honestly though, I agree. Wtf?!?
If all these assistants were so smart as they want us to think they should be able to handle EVERY language from the get go or at least be trainable.
Not to much to ask for really.

How on earth does Samsung expect people in the UK to pay £750+ for an S8 when:
Bixby doesn’t work with English
Samsung Pay doesn’t work in the UK
The fingerprint scanner is awkwardly placed
The battery is too small.
Disappointing camera
Uninspiring colours
Lack of security and software updates

What an insult Samsung for selling the S8/S8+ with Bixby in the UK, the country where English originated without full support for the language.

There’s no support for Samsung pay because there’s little need for it. Most card readers use either contactless or chip ane pin. The magnetic secure transmission tech that Samsung pay uses is not very common at all in the uk.

Clearly Samsung have something against the British, with Samsung Pay and now this, UK English isn’t that much different, its just an excuse in my opinion. I mean, what was the point of the event in London?! They didn’t announce anything for the UK, there’s not even a special offer or colour coming to the UK. I was certain it would be Samsung Pay launch too, very disappointed.

Guess it will take another year or so for this new voice assistant to grow up.
