Did Samsung just file a patent with images of the Apple Watch?

Samsung is often accused of copying Apple, that accusation is also the basis of a very long legal battle between the two companies, which is why it’s very surprising to see that Samsung would file a patent with some very familiar looking images. Its patent details swapping mechanisms for smartwatch bands and features design drawings of what is clearly the Apple Watch, based on that smartwatch’s marketing renders.

Samsung has used Apple Watch drawings alongside its own design drawings to showcase the different methods it has developed of swapping bands on smartwatches. Design elements of the Apple Watch are clearly noticeable in the patent drawings which would lead my to suggest that Samsung is actively gaining inspiration from its competitor’s product. Surely this won’t help the case of those who argue that claims of Samsung copying Apple are overblown. As to why Samsung thought this would be a good idea, well it’s anybody’s guess right now.

“The patent, “Wearable Device,” describes a format for attaching watch band straps to a smartwatch device”

Samsung has been using a toy watch to show his attaching band strap. The Apple watch is the perfect representation of a common toy for non mature kid.

It is a perfect choice to use a common accessory, object of no use like the Apple Watch, attached to a useful watch band strap.

You sound like an idiot. Look at the facts, not even Samsung fans want the S2, thats why it has sold so poorly compared to the Apple Watch.

Huawei Smartwatch is the best selling smartwatch. Huawei also has some of the best reviews on Amazon

Samsung supplies Apple with hundreds of accessories and parts as : processor, screen, memory, etc.

You will probably find this attaching watch band on the next Apple Watch.

So! Who are the idiots?

So what do you think of Samsung’s new OS on the Note 7? Oh that’s right, Samsung doesn’t make their own OS, they need to rely on Google for that VERY critical part.

They do actually.. Tizen..
However they don’t need to make an os.. they make premium devices that complement android and vice versa..

Are you sure you’re reading the reviews correctly?
Sales have been really good.. and it’s a great device..

The apple watch as an ugly design and looks like a toy. Samsung gear s2 is way better looking. And I rather want a round smartwatch over for a square watch

Square displays are much better for displaying text notifications and stuff though, the only reason to have a round Watch would be if it’s analogue which smart watches aren’t. I’d rather a square or rectangular gear S3.

LOL, awesome. Apple does this all the times and gets away with it.

If it is for a strap, it does not matter what the watch face is. I think Samsung was having a bit of fun here.

Samsung is still at it on copying other competitor’s ideas. What happened to being a leader, rather than a follower?

Yes like omitting already great functions and hardware from it’s devices and UI to be more apple-like.
• Infinite scrolling
• Readout Notications for: alarms, calls etc.
• Voice command in camera.
• IR blaster.
And so on which most users of samsung devices have become accustomed, and would have made newer devices more functional and closer to perfection.

Samsung aren’t copying anything. If you look past the incredibly shoddy and lazy journalism of this article and check out the patent itself you will see that what Samsung are actually patenting looks nothing like anything apple has ever invented. The apple watch is only used as an example of existing material, strap and fixing combinations. Nothing else.
