Despite the fact that Samsung retains its position as the biggest smartphone vendor in the world the IDC registered a 2.3% decline in the company's market share by the end of Q2 2015. The company's overall marketshare declined from 24.8% in Q2 2014 to 21.7% in Q2 2015. A drop was also registered in shipment volumes with 73.2 million units for Q2 2015 as opposed to 74.9 million units during the same period last year. IDC says that the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge arrived with mixed results as problems were compounded by supply shortages for the edge variant, all eyes are now on the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ to see if the handsets can improve Samsung's fortunes in the next quarter.
