Samsung will increase the use of premium materials to keep competition at bay

In recent months we have seen a clear shift in Samsung's strategy. The company is now more open to using premium materials. Samsung's decision to go with metal and glass for the Galaxy S6 speaks volumes. Even before the latest flagship was announced Samsung tested the waters with the A series. Today at Samsung's 46th Annual General Meeting in South Korea co-CEO Shin Jong Kyun confirmed that the company is going to increase the use of metal casings, high-definition displays and slim designs across its range of models to better hold its ground against the competition.

Late last year we exclusively reported about Samsung halting the development of its U series high-end smartphones. We said that Samsung might launch the U series smartphones after the Galaxy S6 is released. The Galaxy S6 will be released next month. With Samsung confirming today that it intends to use premium materials in more smartphones the possibility exists that the U series might arrive at some point later this year.

Shin added that “Samsung Electronics aims to consolidate its leadership in the premium market and plans to newly change the smartphone line-up to strengthen competitiveness.”
