[Video] Tizen appears quite fast and smooth even on low-end hardware

Last week, Samsung officially announced its first Tizen-based smartphone, the Z1 in India. The device is priced at INR 5,700 (~ $92), a relatively higher price tag for its low-end hardware, especially when you compare it with Android value-for-money smartphones like the Xiaomi Redmi 1S and the Asus Zenfone 4. It features a 1.2GHz dual-core processor from Spreadtrum, 768MB RAM, and 4GB internal storage, but Samsung is trying to defend its pricing. The Korean giant claims that Tizen can not only run Android apps, it is also lighter than other platforms. It means that Tizen requires relatively less powerful hardware to run as smooth as other platforms.

A new video from Simrandeep Singh Garcha shows that Tizen runs quite fast and smooth on the Z1, a rarity for smartphones in a similar price range. The video shows Tizen running without any sort of lag on the Z1, as well as new features like customisable colour themes and icon sets. It appears that even things like web browsing are smooth and fast on Tizen, as seen in the second video, thanks to faster page load times as well as smooth scrolling, panning, and zooming.

Apparently, Samsung is also working to optimize TouchWiz on the upcoming Galaxy S6 to be as smooth as the Nexus 6’s software. Enjoy the videos, and let us know in the comments if you find the Samsung Z1 smoother than average entry-level Android smartphones, especially the ones from Samsung.

Have any of you even used Tizen? It is actually very fluid and dynamic. I love it on my Gear 2.

Samsung should have debuted their new OS on a more premium looking device maybe like the alpha, but priced low (right above a break even) to allow the OS to gain some popularity. I wouldnt even buy this phone for my 5 year old nephew because there are better looking and maybe cheaper androids

Come on Samsung do better!

Tizen phones seems more like kid toy. Design is HORRIBLE, features are horrible, no games, no applications, icons seems crap, etc. Maybe for my 3 years old kid for playing like a TOY. Really a waste of money. Not more than 20 usd phone cost.

Remember that’s the point though. Tizen’s meant to run on real-low hardware (maybe it’ll be shown on a flagship later but for now) so it’s not exactly meant for everybody out there (not like the S5 or the Moto G/X might be). It’s targeted at the ultra-affordable section of the smartphone market. Yes, the design is reminiscent of a Galaxy Ace mashed with a 2009 Samsung Corby but that’s the point – it’s meant to debut the software and how well it runs. It’s probably meant for first-time smartphone buyers or people who want something really cheap that’ll still do… Read more »
