Samsung’s new crop of smartwatches might have stolen the spotlight from Galaxy Gear, the first smartwatch that Samsung launched last year, but that doesn’t mean developers have lost all love for it. Powered by modified Android at first the Galaxy Gear was recently updated to Tizen officially and now there’s a custom Tizen ROM available for this smartwatch.

Released by XDA developer Skin1980, the first Tizen custom ROM for Galaxy Gear is based on the last XXUCNF1 release and happens to be rooted. Changes include new boot animation and shutdown animation as well as battery optimizations due to a specific script that helps when using Galaxy Gear with a non-Samsung phone. Android L font has also been added.

The developer promises themed custom ROMs for the Galaxy Gear in the near future, and that would certainly be something to look forward to. The download files are available through XDA.
