    Introduction

Samsung took a break from the Classic smartwatch series in 2022 and released the first Pro model instead. But at the second Galaxy Unpacked event of 2023, Samsung brought back the Classic smartwatch and left the Pro variant to the side.

The Galaxy Watch 6 Classic is a sequel to the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, the latter of which Samsung released in 2021. It refines the formula with thinner bezels and enhances the experience through upgraded hardware and software features.

    Design

The one fundamental design characteristic of the Classic smartwatch series is the physical rotating bezel, and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic has one.

Samsung reintroduced the rotating bezel but also refined it. Like in previous years, the rotating bezel relies on a 3D Hall sensor, except now, the rotating mechanism is thinner.

The Galaxy Watch 6 Classic comes in two sizes, 43mm and 47mm. It's IP68 rated and has a MIL-STD-810H construction. The smartwatch's circular display boasts Sapphire Crystal protection.

The wearable has two side buttons that can be used to take ECG readings and navigate the UI, along with the rotating bezel.

    The 43mm model measures 42.5 x 42.5 x 10.9mm and weighs 52 grams. The 47mm Galaxy Watch 6 Classic measures 46.5 x 46.5 x 10.9 and weighs 59 grams.

    Specifications

The 43mm and 47mm Galaxy Watch 6 Classic are equipped with 1.3-inch and 1.5-inch Super AMOLED displays, respectively. The smaller panel has a resolution of 432 x 432, whereas the 1.5-inch displays have 480 x 480 pixels. The panels can reach 2,000 nits of brightness.

The smartwatch is powered by Samsung's Exynos W930 dual-core 1.4Ghz chipset, has 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of built-in storage.

The larger model is powered by a 425mAh battery, and the smaller one has a 300mAh unit. Regardless of size, Samsung says the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic can deliver up to 40 hours of battery life when the Always-On Display is turned off or up to 30 hours when turned on.

Samsung reuses its proprietary Bioactive Sensor, which combines Optical Heart Rate, Electrical Heart Signal, and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis sensors into one. There's also a temperature sensor, an accelerometer, a barometer, a gyro sensor, a geomagnetic sensor, and a light sensor.

    Software and Features

The Galaxy Watch 6 series runs the Wear OS 4-based One UI Watch 5 update out of the box. The new software brings many improvements to health, fitness, and sleep tracking, along with new and updated apps.

Sleep Coaching is now available directly on the device, and sleep monitoring offers more details for users to get a better understanding of their sleep patterns.

Fall detection was improved and can detect falls during exercises when standing still, and even while sleeping if users fall out of bed.

The existing blood pressure and electrocardiogram monitoring features are now accompanied by a new Irregular Hearth Rhythm Notification, and fitness enthusiasts get Personalized Heart Rate Zones based on their fitness levels and heart rate instead of generic zones.

New apps include WhatsApp, Google Calendar, Gmail, and Audible (released later after the smartwatch's debut). The Thermo Check app demonstrates Samsung's new Skin Temperature API, and the Camera Controller app introduces switch modes and zoom controls.

In addition, the Galaxy Watch 6 offers the Find My Phone feature with map support, which lets users find their mobile phones if they lose them.

    Price and Availability

Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch 6 series on July 26 at Galaxy Unpacked in Seoul. The smartwatch became available for pre-order on the same day in select markets. Samsung scheduled the Galaxy Watch 6's release for August 11.

The Bluetooth 43mm Galaxy Watch 6 Classic was priced at $399, while the 47mm variant had a price tag of $429 at launch. The LTE models went on sale for $449 and $479.
