Samsung Galaxy F54 5G

Introduction

The Galaxy F series is not as unique as other Samsung Galaxy smartphone lineups. F series phones are usually rebranded Galaxy M devices, but initially they were confined to the affordable mid-range segment. But in 2023, the Galaxy F lineup matured thanks to the Galaxy F54, which offers exciting specs similar to Galaxy A series devices like the Galaxy A54.

Design and display

The Galaxy F54 stands out with a beautiful rear design but doesn't go as far as the Galaxy A54 as far as design upgrades are concerned and, therefore, has a plastic back instead of glass. The Galaxy F54 shares its design language with a lot of mid-range Samsung phones that came before it, with individually placed cameras on the back, volume and power keys on the right side, and a fingerprint sensor embedded into the power button.

The F54's display is a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and has a centered cutout for the front camera. The Galaxy F54 launched in two pretty colors: Stardust Silver and Meteor Blue. The dimensions of the phone are 164.9 x 77.3 x 8.4 mm.

Specifications

The Galaxy F54 shares many of its specs with the Galaxy A54. At its heart is an Exynos 1380 chip that's paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage, with the option to expand storage by a maximum of 1TB using the microSD slot.

Its camera setup includes a 108MP main camera at the rear, accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP front camera. For selfies, the F54 comes with a 32MP camera that's located in the display punch hole. Software features for the camera include astro hyperlapse, Single Take, a Night mode, and Pro photo and video modes that let you customize camera parameters such as shutter speed for increased control.

The F54 has a 6,000 mAh battery keeping the lights on. It doesn't come with a charger in the box but supports Samsung's 25W charging tech and can achieve a full charge in an hour and a half with a 25W charger. It has a capacitive fingerprint sensor that is embedded in the power button. For sound, the F54 has a single speaker located at the bottom but doesn't have a 3.5mm port.

Connectivity-wise, the Galaxy F54 is equipped well. It supports 5G connectivity and Wi-Fi 6 networks and has NFC for easy pairing with NFC-enabled Bluetooth devices and for making cardless payments through Samsung Wallet (previously called Samsung Pay).

Software

The Galaxy F54 launched with Android 13 and One UI 5.1 out of the box. It includes most of the software features that make Samsung smartphones stand out among the competition, with the exception of flagship features like Samsung DeX. On the update front, the Galaxy F54 is eligible for four major Android OS and One UI updates and five years of security updates.

Availability and price

Samsung started taking pre-orders for the Galaxy F54 in India on May 30, 2023, and put it on retail shelves a week later on June 6. Its price is INR 29,999 (roughly $365) for the 8GB+256GB configuration.
