Introduction
The Galaxy A12 was unveiled by Samsung on the same November 2020 date as the Galaxy A02s. Unsurprisingly given its designation, the Galaxy A12 is another budget phone belonging to the 2021 Galaxy A lineup. It has a slightly higher price compared to its A02s sibling but it offers a few extra features in return.
Design
The Galaxy A12 has a unibody design, which means that unlike many other Galaxy phones on the market, it doesn't have a metal frame separating the front and back panels. Instead, the case is made of a single molded piece that wraps around all four edges until it meets the display.
The phone carries the physical buttons on the right edge and the back panel accommodates a square-shaped camera module along with an LED flash. The phone uses an Infinity-V display with a V-shaped notch. The phone measures 164 x 75.8 x 8.9 mm, it weighs 205 grams, and it will hit the shelves in four color options: black, blue, red, and white.
Specifications
The Galaxy A12 has a 6.5-inch HD+ TFT display driven by an unspecified octa-core chipset with two CPU clusters operating at frequencies of 1.8GHz and 2.3GHz. Evidence suggests this could be the MediaTek Helio P35 chipset. The application processor is paired with 3GB / 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 32GB / 64GB / 128GB of internal, expandable storage.
The phone is equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and it boasts a generous 5,000mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging. It also has a 3.5mm audio port at the bottom.
Camera
The square-shaped camera cutout residing on the phone's back panel makes room for a quad-camera setup that consists of a 48MP main shooter with an f.2.0 aperture, a 5MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide, and 2MP (f/2.4) depth and macro sensors.
The selfie camera has a resolution of 8-megapixels and an f/2.0 aperture.
Software
Samsung hasn't mentioned anything about the Galaxy A12 software experience in its official announcement and time will tell if the phone will ship with Android 10 or Android 11, but it's likely going to be the former.
Price and Availability
The Galaxy A12 was unveiled on November 24, 2020 ahead of a scheduled January 2021 release. The 64GB model is set to go on sale in Europe for 179 EUR whereas the 128GB variant will cost 199 EUR.
