    Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G

    Latest news

    Introduction

When the Galaxy Z Flip was first launched in February 2020, Samsung only offered the device with 4G, despite the fact that it made no secret that 2020 will be the year of 5G for the company. It was only months later that we discovered that Samsung would indeed release a 5G variant of the device.

Delaying the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 5G was probably a conscious decision on Samsung's part. It would have been more expensive compared to the 4G variant. Already priced at $1,380, Samsung may not have wanted to bring a higher price tag into the picture initially. With the initial hype now over and the Galaxy Z Flip performing far better than what many had expected, Samsung feels it's now the right time to launch the 5G variant.

    Design

Literally nothing is different between the Galaxy Z Flip 4G and 5G when it comes to the design. It's still the same clamshell foldable smartphone with a Hideaway Hinge that allows for the very useful Flex Mode.

    The exact measurements of the Galaxy Z Flip 5G don't differ much from the Galaxy Z Flip's 73.6 x 87.4 x 17.3mm folded and 73.6 x 167.3 x 7.2mm unfolded measurements while weighing 183g. It's offered in a beautiful new Mystic Bronze color with a matte finish.

    Display

The Galaxy Z Flip 5G has a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity Flex display with a 21.9:9 aspect ratio. Samsung brands it as the world's first foldable glass display. Since it is a foldable panel, there's obviously a crease in the middle. However, it's not much of a bother when you're using the phone.

There is a tiny 1.06-inch cover display on the outside which is used to display notifications, battery status and more. Samsung also allows this display to be used as a viewfinder when taking photos with the primary camera.

    Specifications

The Galaxy Z Flip 5G will largely have the same specifications as the 4G LTE variant with one major exception. It uses the new Snapdragon 865+ processor but retains the same 8GB of RAM. We have already revealed exclusively that it's also going to feature 256GB of internal storage. There are also two separate batteries with a combined capacity of 3,300mAh. It has support for the 5G network standard.

    Camera

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Z Flip 5G with a dual camera system at the back which includes a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra wide camera and a 12-megapixel wide angle camera with Optical Image Stabilization. A 10-megapixel camera will be present on the front.

    Software

Given that the Galaxy Z Flip 5G is going to be released in the second half of this year, there's a chance that it may come with One UI 2.5 out of the box. The next iteration of Samsung's custom Android skin has not yet been announced, but it's expected to bring new features and enhancements. Android 10 is obviously the core OS version.

    Price and Availability

The Galaxy Z Flip 5G was unveiled on July 22, 2020 and it's going to be released in select markets on August 7. Mystic Gray and Mystic Bronze are the two new colors that it's offered in. The Galaxy Z Flip 5G is priced at $1,449.99 in the United States and it's available from AT&T, T-Mobile, Best Buy, Amazon and Samsung.com.
