Over the Horizon turns 15 and Samsung’s new 2026 theme hit me harder than expected

Being a Samsung fan can feel like a bit of a rollercoaster. Perfection doesn't exist, and Samsung certainly isn't perfect either. Sometimes we get exactly what we hope for. Other times, not so much.

But if there's one thing Samsung gets consistently right, it's the Over the Horizon brand sound. That theme is burned into my memory, and if you're a Samsung fan, chances are it triggers some kind of emotion. It definitely does for me, and the 2026 Over the Horizon theme is surprisingly evocative.

This year's interpretation, called “A Soundtrack of the Earth,” has that cinematic epicness you'd expect from a blockbuster score. Honestly, I think it's hard for this one not to spark at least a little pride among Samsung fans.

When I first heard it earlier today, I caught myself feeling more excited about the upcoming Galaxy S26 series than I did earlier in the morning. I'll admit it — I'm a sucker for powerful soundtracks. And this one seems to tick all the right boxes.

Hearing it almost made me feel like I was watching an epic scene in an animated movie. Hit that play button, close your eyes, and you might travel to a different realm full of wonder. Well, at least your mind might.

My love for music aside, maybe the emotions hit a bit harder this year because we're celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Over the Horizon brand sound. The first version debuted with the Samsung Galaxy S II back in May 2011.

Over the past 15 years, Samsung has experimented with a surprising range of styles, from classical interpretations to jazz. Even SUGA from BTS helped reshape the theme a few years ago. Year after year, the theme continued to transform in unexpected ways.

But after shifting the tone from orchestral in 2024 to jazz in 2025, Samsung is once again bringing Over the Horizon back to an orchestral style in 2026. I think it's gorgeous.

The 2026 theme was revealed in a video on Samsung's YouTube channel earlier today to mark the upcoming Galaxy S26 series. It also sets the tone for Galaxy Unpacked 2026, scheduled for February 25.
