TL;DR

  • The Galaxy Z TriFold has Samsung’s biggest foldable battery at 5,600mAh, but it was sold in limited markets and has been discontinued.
  • Among widely available models, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra leads with a 5,000mAh battery, followed by the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at 4,800mAh.
  • Samsung’s fold batteries stayed flat for years before the Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra finally increased capacity.

As of October 2026, the Galaxy Z TriFold has the biggest battery of any Samsung foldable phone. Its 5,600mAh battery is 12% larger than the 5,000mAh battery inside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

Samsung achieved that capacity using a three-cell battery system, with one cell in each of the phone’s three sections. But there’s a catch: the TriFold isn’t something most people can buy.

Samsung sold it in limited quantities in only a handful of markets, and it has since been discontinued. Even the final US restock sold out, with Samsung confirming that no more units would be available.

That makes the answer a little different if you’re looking for a foldable you can actually purchase.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has the biggest battery among Samsung’s widely available foldables

With the TriFold out of the picture, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra takes the lead with its 5,000mAh battery.

If you prefer Samsung’s newer passport-style form factor, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 comes close with a 4,800mAh battery. You’re giving up 200mAh compared with the Ultra while getting a shorter, wider phone with a landscape-oriented inner display.

Both models support 45W wired charging, the fastest of any Samsung foldable except for the TriFold. The compact Galaxy Z Flip 8, meanwhile, has a 4,300mAh battery and supports 25W charging.

Samsung kept the same battery capacity for several generations

Interestingly, Samsung’s Fold batteries haven’t always gotten bigger. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 had a 4,500mAh battery, but Samsung reduced that to 4,400mAh with the Fold 3. It then kept the same capacity for the Fold 4, Fold 5, Fold 6, Fold Special Edition, and Fold 7.

The Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra finally broke that streak. Both have larger batteries than even the Fold 2 and ended a surprisingly long wait for a capacity upgrade in Samsung’s regular Fold lineup.

Of course, battery capacity alone doesn’t tell you how long a phone will last on a charge. Display size, processor efficiency, network conditions, and how you use the device all play a part. The TriFold, for example, has a much larger 10-inch display to power when fully unfolded.

Still, if battery capacity is your priority, the Fold 8 Ultra leads Samsung’s widely available foldables. The standard Fold 8 is a close alternative if its passport-style design appeals to you more.
