WhatsApp is not only a reliable instant messaging application, but it has grown to be a reliable free calling option as well. All that is required is a stable internet connection, and you are all set to make audio or video calls via WhatsApp. However, it has also increased the rate of spam calls on WhatsApp.

Fortunately, one of the biggest names in caller identification services, Truecaller, is working on a solution. According to Reuters, Truecaller is planning to expand its caller identification services for messaging apps such as WhatsApp. This will help users identify fake or spam calls they receive on WhatsApp.

The Truecaller call identification feature will launch for WhatsApp in May

Over 350 million users trust Truecaller for its robust caller identification process, with India being the biggest market for this app. Indian users account for around 250 million users. The main sources of revenue for Truecaller include advertisements, subscription services, business listings, and more. Recently, the company introduced AI-powered SMS fraud protection, helping users block spam or fraudulent messages.

Now, to curb the spam calls on WhatsApp, Truecaller’s CEO, Alan Mamedi, confirmed that the company is currently testing a caller identification service on the messaging app. The feature is set to launch globally sometime in May. Mamedi said, “There has been a recent surge in user reports from India regarding spam calls over WhatsApp. The shift by telemarketers to internet calling is a relatively new trend in the market. This indicates that the problem of spam calls is not only limited to traditional telephone networks but has now spread to internet-based communication platforms as well.

With WhatsApp being the most used messaging platform in India and having a trusted name such as Truecaller bring the ability for users to block spam calls, it could be amazing for users to block and report problematic accounts.
