Message reactions won't be anonymous. Any chat or group chat participants will have the ability to view a panel listing all emoji reactions and their specific senders. Assuming, of course, that the feature will be unchanged before it reaches the public — if that. Some features don't make it out of beta, but WhatsApp appears to have been working on message reactions for at least a couple of months.
In the recent WhatsApp beta build, users are limited to only one reaction per message. As for the number of emojis available for message reactions, there are only six, as seen in the screenshot below. More emojis could be added later in the beta testing process or by the time the feature goes live.
The screenshots demonstrating WhatsApp message reactions were captured on iOS, but the source notes that developers are also working on a version for Android OS; Samsung smartphone and tablet running One UI included. There's no timeframe attached to this WhatsApp beta feature, but it's not the only one in development, and Communities may also be coming to the app soon.
