One UI 8 Watch is the next major update for the Galaxy Watch 6 series. The Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic were launched in 2023 and both are eligible to receive major updates from Samsung for at least four years.
The company has been working on the One UI 8 Watch update for eligible devices. It will also bring Wear OS 6, the latest version of the Android platform for smartwatches, to these devices. It has now emerged that the One UI 8 Watch update has entered testing for the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic.
As highlighted on X, firmware version R960XXU1CYF6 is now being tested for the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. This version brings One UI 8 Watch as well as Wear OS 6 to the device. It's quite likely that similar test builds are also in the pipeline for the standard Galaxy Watch 6.
Google officially announced Wear OS 6 last month and confirmed that it will be released for eligible smartwatches, including those from Samsung, later this year. The new firmware update brings a substantial UI redesign, smoother animations and more.
It also brings the Gemini AI assistant to smartwatches, and it has been confirmed that Gemini will indeed be available on Samsung's Galaxy Watch models. The update also addresses some pain points of earlier software versions, particularly one related to the Always-On Display.
Samsung will certainly build its own improvements into One UI 8 Watch, with user interface changes that align with its overall One UI look and feel across its mobile portfolio. The company may also bring additional features, but details on that remain slim at this point in time.
We may come to know about them next month when the company launches the Galaxy Watch 8 series at its Unpacked event. Perhaps it may also confirm when existing devices will receive the One UI 8 Watch update.
